Types of Autoimmune Thyroid Disease

Hashimoto's disease: The most common type of autoimmune thyroid disease, also known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or chronic autoimmune thyroiditis. It's more common in women and can run in families. Symptoms include:Fatigue, Weight Gain, Constipation, Dry Skin, Depression, and the Inability to exercise. Treatment is usually hormone replacement therapy with synthetic thyroid hormone (thyroxine). 


Graves disease: Symptoms include anxiety, nervousness, problems sleeping, breast enlargement in men, fatigue, frequent bowel movements, hair loss, heat intolerance, increased appetite, irregular menstrual periods in women, muscle weakness, moodiness, palpitations, rapid or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath with activity, and shaking hands.
