Lupus and a Positive ANA

Lupus, also known as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body's immune system to attack healthy tissues. This attack can lead to inflammation and tissue damage in many parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, and kidneys. This autoimmune disease is linked to a positive ANA.

Symptoms Include:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Weight changes
  • Joint pain
  • Rash
  • Chest pain when breathing deeply
  • Sensitivity to sunlight
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Headaches
  • Unusual hair loss

Who is affected?

Anyone can get lupus, but it's more common in women, people of African American, American Indian, and Asian descent, and people between the ages of 15 and 45.
